15c. brown on rose, error of colour, in a vivid colour out of the norm, slightly centred to the bottom, good intact perforations, used together with 5c. green-yellow to correctly pay a 11 May 1879 postcard from Paris to Chalon-sur-Saône, so lightly cancelled enabling to distinguish clearly the "15" denomination and leaving the design clean and quite clear, exhibiting dispatch and arrival datestamps alongside. A very fine example of this extremely rare franking on cover or postcard -this variety is particularly scarce used on cover-. Calves certificate (1993). Spink Maury 55e, €40,000. Photo
