The Netherlands East Indies Postal Agencies at Penang and Singapore
In 1878 Netherlands Indies postal agencies opened in the Straits Settlements at Penang and Singapore. During their 43 years existence both offices played an important role in the despatch of mails from, to and within the Netherlands East Indies
1891 (2 Nov.) Netherlands Indies 7½c. brown card (HG 9) written on board "Prins Hendrik" from Atjeh, NEI (30.10) to Holland and redirected internally, cancelled by n-i postagent penang" c.d.s. (Type 3c; 2.11) and showing unframed "ned:indie/over/brindisi" router with various transit and arrival datestamps. The "Prins Hendrik" was built in 1866 and transferred to DEI in 1876 and served in the Auxiliary Squadron as guard ship.
