In 1878 Netherlands Indies postal agencies opened in the Straits Settlements at Penang and Singapore. During their 43 years existence both offices played an important role in the despatch of mails from, to and within the Netherlands East Indies
1881 (14 June) Netherlands Indies 7½c. brown card (HG7) to Holland, cancelled by "89" in diamond of dots (for Singapore, type 2), "n.i. exp. kant. singapore" c.d.s. (Type 3a; 14.6) and unclear framed router and Haarlem arrival c.d.s., all on front, paper adherence on back and a trifle soiled, but still desirable. Photo
