Straits Settlements Queen Victoria Postal Stationery
1891 "2" in Black on 3c. Blue Card (HG 9a)
The Penang postal authorities eared that stocks of the "two/cents" surcharged card might not be received from Singapore in time to have them on sale on 15 November and so, faced with a problem, took the initiative and first surcharged a total of 500 3c. cards (both single and reply) with a large "2" in black, followed by 250 in red (both single and reply).
1892 (11 Jan.) "2" in black on 3c. blue card (back and leg of "2" joined) to India, cancelled by Penang c.d.s., arrived Calcutta (20.1) and redirected on 20 January via Rangoon (28.1) to Bassein (1.2), where yellow Missent label affixed and "Not Known" cachet applied, re-directed again on 20 February to Diamond Island (13.2) where manuscript "unknown at Diamond Island"
applied: redirected back to Bassein (20.2) and finally to Rangoon where it received DLO (29.3) and Bombay DLO (18.4). Well-travelled and full of character. Truly commercial item. Photo
