1896 (11 May) envelope to Bombay bearing, on reverse, "2½" Type 5 on 1a. plum with normal second "z" cancelled by hatched-circle datestamp, Sea Post Office (19.5) and arrival (24.5) datestamps, the face panel with framed "foreign postage due/3 annas" handstamp applied on arrival suggesting that receiving officials in Bombay were not yet aware of the surcharged stamp which paid the correct rate. One of only five examples of the 11 May Surcharges on 1a. recorded on cover. S.G. 25. Photo
