Overprint Settings and Printings
Overprint Setting 1
Printings 7 and 8, January/April 1896 - ½a., 1a., 1½a., 2a., 2½a., 4a. and 8a. values
Stamps from the 7th. and 8th. printings cannot normally be distinguished by the setting of individual stamps, since so few setting changes took place. However, shade variations can readily be identified in three of the values that occurred in the December and April stamp deliveries, these being the 2a., 4a. and 8a.

2a. 3rd. printing in pale blue with broken "p" for "n", R.5/5 dated "17 ja 96", 2a. pale blue with small second "z" and inverted "q" for "b", similarly dated, 2a. 7th./8th. printings in brighter blue with small second "z" and inverted "q" for "b", R.3/3 dated "6 fe 96" and tall second "z" dated "23 ap 96"; 4a. 3rd. printing in olive-green with small second "z" dated "21 jun 96"; 8a. 3rd. printing in dull mauve with small second "z" dated "1 fe 96" and 7th./8th. printings in magenta with tall second "z" dated "24 ap 99", and with small second "z" and rat-tailed "r", R.10/7, dated "28 fe (96)"; generally fine. S.G. 6B, 6D, 7C, 7E, 12D, 14D, 15 var.

Note: The dull mauve and magenta were both unstable colours, showing wide variation. It does appear however, that the magenta stamps were introduced earlier than previously thought
