North Borneo
1884 (28 Jan.) double rate envelope ex the Locke correspondence to Surrey, bearing North Borneo 1883 2c. red-brown (2) sharing 13 bar oval, in combination with Straits Settlements 1882 8c. orange (2, both with faults) and 1883 2c. pale rose pair tied by circular undated "singapore/po" h.s., showing fine "elopura" and Singapore Paid (4.2) datestamps with arrival c.d.s. Note: All the Locke covers were written by Mrs. Ada Pryer, wife of William B. Pryer, the founder of Elopura, which later became known as Sandakan, to her mother. Mrs. Pryer was also author of "A Decade in Borneo" which gives a vivid description of the life of a pioneer in North Borneo.
