1939 (24 August) typed letter with coat of Arms in red at top, written "In Train en route to Bikaner from Simla" and is writing to a brother prince; the letter gives outline results of the meeting in Simla of the Princes' Standing Committee and the British Government which gave only small concessions to the princes' demands. The letter concludes , "Ever yours affectionally, Ganga Singh". With original (now rusty) paper clip. Photo

General Maharaja Sir Ganga Singh (1880 – 1943) was the ruling Maharaja of the princely state of Bikaner (in present-day Rajasthan, India) from 1888 to 1943. He is widely remembered as a modern reformist visionary, and he was also the only non-White member of the British Imperial War Cabinet during World War I.
