1816 envelope front laid down, entirely in Byron's hand and signed to the lower left, posted under the free franking privilege, from London February Sixteenth and addressed "To the Revd Dr E. Clarke, Cambridge". Photo

Rev Clarke was a well known traveller, antiquary, and mineralogist whose "Travels in Various Countries in Europe, Asia and Africa" were read by Byron.

Following his marriage breakdown, mounting debts and the accompanying scandal, Byron left England in April 1816 for the Continent, never to return. Photo
