Autographs
Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington
1810 (30 August) A.L.S. to Marshall Beresford, from Celorico, "The mills may be partially rendered useless whenever you please, for we have no use for them. I think you might write the letter you propose to ... send him £300. There is nothing new forward. Ever yours ... Wellington". The letter has been heavily creased and there is some soiling on the reverse. A good letter from the Peninsular War. Photo

Wellington felt that Beresford was the only senior officer to give him help in the Peninsular campaign. He was in a waiting game, waiting for the French to attack. They began their move on Celorico on 15th and 16th September, by which time Wellingtom had moved to Cortiço
