Under Sheriff to Sir Stephen Scott Baron High Sheriff of the said county per Anno 24th…Mr Bennett the portabagg for portage of Books to Westminster attending the Apposal in Court & assize & for engrossing the green wax etc for making up the Sheriff's Charges (Sixteen shillings eight pence)". Sir Stephen Scott of Hayes Place, Hayes (Bromley) died 1658, Gentleman Pensioner to Charles I, was High Sheriff of Kent in 1647-8. An apposal was the procedure of charging a sheriff with money received at the Exchequer upon his account.
