David Cunningham, The Board of the Green Cloth
1633 (6 July) bill of David Cunningham comprising two entries written on paper folded in the usual manner bearing a filing endorsement to the reverse. Signed to the bottom right "D Cuningham". Bearing also five signatures: "Savage", "Wal: Pye", "Tho: Trevor", "John Bankes" and "James Bagg". Subscribed with a note "This summe of xxij 1 is allowed to Davyd Cunnyngham as is desyred 6 July 1633".
The bill is for for "fier, Candle, penne, inck paper, and baggs" and for "greene cloth, tape, nales, and workmanship for new coveringe on the money table".
David Cunningham (-1659), a courtier who had held a variety of different posts but was Receiver of the Revenues which Charles I had enjoyed when Prince of Wales. In 1641 he became Treasurer and Receiver General to the then Prince of Wales, later Charles II.
'Green Cloth'. The board of Green Cloth was a department of the Royal Household which had control over the expenditure and legal and judicial authority within the sovereign's court royal. The board took its name from the green coloured table at which they originally discussed such matters.
