1847 (16 April) "Lady McLeod"
The steamship "Lady McLeod" plied between Port of Spain and San Fernando carrying passengers, freight and mail. In 1847 the owner, David Bryce, made a stamp available so that those who wished to send letters were able to prepay the charge for carrying them on board the ship
1847 (11 May) entire letter from San Fernando to "Messers Taylor, Graham & Argus" at Port of Spain, bearing "Lady McLeod" (5c.) blue with trace of margin at foot only, neatly cancelled with a pen "X", the face panel with heavy horizontal filing crease (well clear of adhesive) which has been reinforced and patched up. Signed "E. Diena" in pencil beside the stamp. This is the third earliest recorded date and is number C4 in the British West Indies Study Circle listing. Photo
