St. Bartholomews
1801 (19 Apr.) two page letter from Captain George Fowke to John Duckworth, Rear Admiral of the Red and Commander in Chief, headed "Proselyte, St. Bartholomews". The contents include "I am happy in first stating that this Island is put in such a state of defence, by two 18 pounders being mounted on the hill above the Town as to render it perfectly secure. Col. Nicholson was also busily employed when i left St. Martins in clearing a hill which commands the Town and Forts Amsterdam and Bellair and i have no doubt by this time that the Island is equally safe."

Note: St. Batholomews was occupied by the British from 19 March 1801 until 10 July 1802
