Undated entire to R. van der Riet at Stellenbosch, showing a good to fine strike of the Burgher Senate handstamp; wax seal on reverse torn away. Very rare, stated by the owner that only three examples known. Photo

Note: Burgher Senate of six colonists created by government during the first British occupation, replacing the ineffective Dutch Burgher Councillor committee, to represent concerns of the Burghers or colonists to the government. Abolished in 1828 and replaced by English system of local magistrates and justices of the peace.
