1842 (10 July) handpainted Hunting scene "Going! Going! Gone for 1 Penny", bearing 1841-53 1d. tied by a black Maltese Cross cancellation, from the Reverend L. Lorraine Smith to London, on reverse Stoney Stratford datestamp and blue "stony/l l s/stratford" (with reversed "n"); minor filing folds and seal removed from the reverse; fine and believed to be the earliest recorded hand coloured envelope.
