1906 Overprinted on Stamps of Labuan
Issued Stamps
1c. black and purple error overprint in black, with top margin, mounted in the margin only; there is a tiny thin in the top margin, otherwise this is believd to the the finest example of this error. Ex C.M.C. Symes. R.P.S. Certificate (1963). S.G. 11a, £2500. Photo

The overprint in black was thought to be a colour trial. This was considered too difficult to read so the ink was changed to red for all subsequent sheets. It is likely that only one sheet was printed and this was sent to the colony in error. This variety was noticed by the postal clerk after he had sold nearly half of the sheet for routine postal use. The remainder was purchased by the Resident

The sheet number of this error sheet is "355"
