1683 (15 Nov.) entire letter to Sir Dudley North (Sheriff of London from 1682) with a superb strike of the rare first type Government Penny Post "payd/peny/post/t" (Temple) and time stamp "p/af/5" (St. Pauls) alongside, both on the reverse as usual and opening well for display. Believed to be the finest example of the first type Government Penny Post "Dockwra's" in private hands. Photo

The first type "Government Dockwra" marks are actually in fact even rarer than the Original Dockwra marks, being recorded only from 15 Jan. 1683 to 14 Aug. 1864 (20 months with twenty-two recorded examples) compared to twenty-two months (with twenty-six recorded) for Original Dockwra marks
