1919 (12 Apr.) envelope "by aeroplane" to "the editor, the daily mail/london" bearing "first trans-atlantic air post" 3c. brown tied by St. John's machine cancellation and showing, on reverse "found open (or torn) and officially sealed" label with London c.d.s. of 30 May; the envelope with a vertical filing fold but otherwise very fine and a great air mail rarity which has not been offered at auction for over forty years.
