1919 (12 Apr.) "Hawker" 3c. brown initialled "J.A.R." on reverse by the Postmaster Dr. J.A. Robinson, fine mint. An attractive example of this important rarity. Of the 200 stamps produced, eighteen were damaged or destroyed, 95 were used as flight cover frankings, eleven were given as presentation examples and the remaining 76 sold for the benefit of the Marine Disasters Fund, therefore only 87 mint examples are possible, with the surviving figure believed to be far less. Signed Sanabria and with Brandon Certificate (1997). S.G. 142, £22,000. Photo
