USA: Newport Bank (RI), certificate for one share 18[07], #1466, handsigned by Constant Taber as President, small format, black. Founded in 1803, the bank was heavily involved in financing the slave trade. Converted to Newport National Bank in 1865. Constant Taber (1743-1826), Chief Judge in Connecticut, Navy agent under Thomas Jefferson.Moved to Rhode Island and became President of the State House of Representatives. Leiutenant Governor of Rhode Island, 1807 and 1808. VF.
