General Gordon notes, Siege of Khartoum, Sudan, a hand drawn essay in ink, on watermarked notepaper, for 20 government piastres 25 April 1884, very similar to the issued notes, but in English, with bank title at top centre, and General Gordon signature at low left, half moon pattern at centre, also an issue 20 piastres, 1884, black text on cream card, half moon design at top centre, blue handstamps on face, hectograph signature
(Pick S104b), the issued note about uncirculated, the essay also about uncirculated. The handwriting has been compared to a letter written by G. Gordon, which is held in the British Library, and is believed to be a match. A really superb item, entirely unique and of great historical importance.
