(x) Mercia, Coenwulf (796-821), Penny, 1.28g, 6h, large portrait type (c.810-822/23), Canterbury, Oba, coenvvlf - rex m, diademed and draped bust right breaking inner circle, rev. +oba +mon +eta around cross pattée with leaf shaped wedges in angles, all within a solid circle inside the beaded border (Naismith type C41.4 this coin not listed; N.355; S.916), toned, good very fine, extremely rare

Naismith lists only two coins of this type, both from the same reverse die, one in the British Museum, the other in the Lyon collection on deposit at the Fitzwilliam Museum. This third example is from different dies.
