1814 (1 June) double rate entire ex the "Birnie" correspondence from Charlotte Town to London, marked "Paid to Halifax 1/4" in red ink, rated "4/4", showing Halifax transit datestamp of 15 June and, on reverse, very fine "prince edward island" datestamp (P1) and red arrival datestamp (11.7); some wear along folds. Note: This letter was carried by the Falmouth Packet "Osbourne" which was attacked by the Privateer "Snap Dragon", itself subsequently pursued and captured by a British warship
