Postal History
1854 (11 Aug.) 1d. pink envelope from Frome to London, indistinct barred oval cancellation and fine "meils" u.d.c. on reverse, with a photograph of the addressee in place of his name and a curious message under the flap "My dear Marsham, what shall we say now about consolation being palsie and never to be revived, and that if we'd never meet, and if it did we'd never do anything and all that and a great deal more, ever yours J.W. I wish you would write me a nice letter"; a little soiled but extremely unusual and possibly a unique form of address. Photo
