Hami - Alma Ata Air Service
1941 (17 June) home-made Chungking commercial envelope registered to Bulgaria marked "Air Mail to Alma Ata" bearing Sun Yat Sen $1 with anti-bandit overprint and New York print $1 tied by dotted c.d.s. with a fine example of Shan Sheng Kung red on white registration label and, on the reverse, Sofia (19.7), Radotina and Botevgrad arrival c.d.s. (22.7). The postal clerk has marked the air mail instruction with "only" in red crayon. When the Germans invaded Russia on 22nd June both the Hami - Alma Ata and Alma Ata - Moscow lines were suspended. This is thought to have been carried on the last flight of this service between Tihwa and Alma Ata. Photo
