1944 (24 July) opened-out envelope to U.S.A. bearing Central Trust $1 (2) and $2 tied by Tihwa/Urumtsi c.d.s. with a different despatch on the reverse along with "base postal depot/bombay" (10.10) and Peshawar censor seal. Paying the $4 international postage rate. With the Burma road closed by the Japanese army, letters were sent by air mail to Calcutta (then via Lagos or Egypt), however, the postal route from Sinkiang to India had been secretly re-opened. So far no other letter travelling by this route has been discovered. Photo
