Chinese Republic Post
Overprinted Stamps
1934 (1 Sept.) opened-out envelope to Tihwa bearing, on the reverse, 1924-36 6c. (with lower margin imprint) tied by Tihwa arrival c.d.s. (23.10) with a second strike alongside. The address side with Shuleh English/Chinese c.d.s. of despatch and Shufu transit with manuscript date ("3.9"). The cover also with handwritten censor seal with the censor's handstamp in black. An interesting cover, it is possible that the stamp was applied in Tihwa as there was a shortage of stamps in Kashgar district; both the postmark and censorship seals had been lost in the Kumul Islamic rebellion so a provisional wooden postmark and censor seal were used instead. The letter took 52 days in transit. Photo
