Unoverprinted Junk Stamps
1914 (9 Dec.) envelope double registered to Copenhagen "Via U.S.A." bearing, on the reverse, London print 5c. (5, plus one on the address side) tied by Kashie (Kashgar) c.d.s. with good strikes of the boxed registered handstamp and large "AR" below, with Tahcheng (7.1) and Russian P.O. Chuguchak (27.12) exchange office c.d.s. and circular Russian censor handstamp in purple. Paying 10c. international rate plus 10c. each for registration and acknowledgement of receipt. A delightful and very important cover. Photo

The war in Western Europe meant that mail could not be sent this way. This letter was carried on the Trans-Siberian raillway, via Japan and America.

These stamps were first introduced in Sinkiang in 1914 and were in use for only about nine months before the Provincial stamps were introduced and, as such, covers are very scarce
