Sussex, Bodiam Castle, copper medal, 1830, by W. Wyon, view of castle, rev. bodiam castle built by the dalyngrig family in the fourteenth century now in possession of john fuller esqr of rose hill mdcccxxx in eight lines, 51mm., (BM ref. M.6055; BHM 1456), extremely fine

This medal was first sold to visitors of Bodiam Castle, to raise funds for the maintenance of the newly founded Sussex County Hospital and Sea Bathing Infirmary, Hastings, which offered aid "to the poor of any county or nation when suffering under sickness or casual injury". The Sussex Advertiser previously recorded John Fuller's own personal generosity to this charitable insitution, when in March 1825 he contributed £200 for its construction.
