(x) Sri Lanka / Ceylon, Dutch East India Company (VOC), AE Bonk Bars (46), mainly 2 and 1-Stiver issues, many contemporary copies including an 8-Stiver bar, 143.40g, 1803, 2-Stivers include dates 1796, 1797, 1798, 1799, 1800, 1801, 1802, 1804, 1805, 1806, 1808, 1809, 1810, 1818, 1-Stivers include dates 1796, 1797, 1799, 1803, 1804, 1805, 1809, 1810, the 8-Stiver weakly struck and water worn, probably a copy, generally about fine to very fine, a good selection including some very rare dates(47)
Struck from bars of copper imported from Japan, these bars were made in Batavia from 1796. Although they are more commonly found in Sri Lanka, they were also current in Batavia itself, as well as the rest of Java, Cheribon and Bantam.
