Joseph Bancroft Reade FRS FRMS (1801-1870) was a pioneer of photography who is most noted for his work with gallic acid and sodium thiosulphate as a suitable fixation agent for early photographic processing several years prior to the experiments of Louis Daguerre and William Henry Fox Talbot in January 1839.
