Ernest Plant was born in April 1906 and enlisted in the Royal Artillery in the mid-1920s. Having then seen active service on the North-West Frontier, he was discharged to the Army Reserve. Called-up in August 1939, he joined the B.E.F. and was wounded and captured at Cassel on 28 May 1940. Plant was sent to Stalag VIIIB in Germany and was attached to a working camp at Krappitzs in the period January 1943 to January 1945; his Belgian decoration requires verification.
