(x) East and West Africa 1887-1900, 1 clasp, Benin River 1894 (Lieut: F. W. King. 1: W.I. Regt.), light contact marks, very fine
Authorised 30 August 1895, the 'Benin River 1894' clasp was granted to members of the expedition that proceeded up the Benin River to curb the predatory activities of Chief Nana of Brohemie. The 1st West India Regiment originated from Jamaica and first travelled to the Gold Coast of West Africa to fight in the Ashantee War of 1873-74.
