BOAC Singapore to Durban "Horseshoe" Route
With Italy's entry into the war in June 1940, the Mediterranean route to the UK was cut and the emergency "Horseshoe" route was in operation by 19 June between Durban and Sydney, with BOAC serving the Durban - Singapore section, and Qantas the Singapore - Sydney section. From Durban mail was carried by sea to the UK
