provenance
Archival research indicates that the most likely candidates for the named individuals are a Mary, daughter of John and Elizabeth Webster, who was baptised in Shoreditch, London on 20th August 1758. Given the overt allusion to Dover Castle, it is possible that John had a military background, involving his garrisoning there at a time of heightened tensions between England and France. Further research is needed.
