King George V
The Royal Philatelic Collection

1926 (6 May) privately carried mourning A.L.S. and envelope on Buckingham Palace stationery to Viscountess Cave at the House of Lords. The letter reads, "My dear Lady Cave, I wish to tell you how much I appreciate your kindness in sending me that envelope with the Zanzibar stamps on it, of which your brother sent you before they were issued. I find that I had them only unused, so they will make a very valuable addition to my collection, in which I have already placed them.". The letter concludes, "We are living in anxious times, we must all pray that this terrible strike may soon come to an end" and is signed "George R.I.".

An unusual letter which would make a fine addition to a collection of Zanzibar. Photo
