Herbert Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener
(1899) (14 March) A.L.S. from Head Quarters, Egyptian Army at "Omdurman" to Charles Moberly-Bell (a Times reporter) where he writes, "I am not prepared from a military point of view to send an expedition south of our present posts. ... I feel sure you will agree in all this and not wish to make my hands fuller than they are at present". The letter is signed, "Kitchener of Khartoum". With two photographs, one upper torso studio photograph from Elliot and Fry, London, the second (8¼x6½ inches) taken during Lord Kitchener's visit to Egypt, Kitchener in civilian suit with Major-General Maxwell and other men of the 21st Lancers who were in the Battle of Omdurman (two corner faults).
