Charles Bennet, 4th Earl of Tankerville
1802 (5 January) A.L.S. from Brighton to the Post Office, a complaint that his Free Franks were not being recognised, " ... I have now only to require that my Letters may not be charged as there is scarce a day that I am not under the necessity of returning several Covers, an inconvenience which I have experienced for some years, & which seems to increase." and includes an incident when a letter containing bills worth several thousand pounds was received in a very damaged state, and is signed "Tankerville". An interesting insight into some of the problems with the Free Frank service
