Grenville, "I send you herewith an Estimate of those independent companys for the service of the Coast of Africa ... the amount of this quarter may be applied to defray the charge of Levy money ... When I shall know your pleasure on these points, I will order a copy for the Board of Treasury; & shall present it, if settled, tomorrow. I have sent a copy to Ld. Hillsborough" and is signed "W: Ellis". Generally fine
Welbore Ellis, 1st Baron Mendip (1713 – 1802) was a British statesman. He held a number of political offices. In 1762, he succeeded Charles Townshend as Secretary at War
Wills Hill, 1st Marquess of Downshire (1718 – 1793), known as the Viscount Hillsborough from 1742 to 1751 and as the Earl of Hillsborough from 1751 to 1789, was a British politician of the Georgian era. For nearly two years, between 1763 and 1765, he was President of the Board of Trade and Plantations under George Grenville. Best known in North America as the Earl of Hillsborough, he served as Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1768 to 1772, a critical period leading toward the American War of Independence.
