Copyhold
1690 (13 June) a Copyhold drawn up at Standon Rectory or Standon Friars written in latin on vellum, stating that at an earlier court one Martha Mitchell surrendered by the nod into the hands of the Lord of the Manor a messuage with garden and 29 acres of arable land called Miles Jacen at Bragbury End in the parish of Datchworth, Herts. ... M.M. made her will on 15 June 1865 and deferred the premises to one Philip Mitchell for his natural life and after his death to Richard Mitchell ... Fine and an interesting local document. Photo

Bragbury (Bragborrowes, Brackberrie, xvii cent.) was owned at the end of the 16th century by Thomas Michell, son of John Michell, who held it of the manor of Friars in Standon in socage by fealty. He settled it in 1602 on his son Thomas, who was about to marry Martha Bussye, and who succeeded his father in 1610
