Trade Bill of Exchange
1589 (6 December) folio letter on laid paper with address panel, "To our trysty and welbeloved Christopher Humfrey", requesting a loan of £20 with the promise that the sum with be repaid by the end of the year. The document concludes, "Given under our privy Seale at our Mannor of Richmond ..." and signed "Thos Kerry". With three footnotes, "Received the xx1 day of Janewary anno 1590 of Christofar Humfrey grocer the some of twenty powndes which ys the ffull conteynen of thys pryvy sell, George Barne"; a memorandum dated 20th June 1592 appointing his servant, Robert Conye, to collect the £20 and receipt for this payment. Upper right corner has been torn off.
Also a fragment of a similar Bill of Exchange bearing a fine signature of Thomas Kerry with a photocopy of the complete demand note from the Hertfordshire Record Office. Photo
