A Pardon of Alienation
1575 (3 June) a document on vellum headed "Elizabeth", written in Latin, being a pardon of alienation, Anthony Kemp had acquired the Manor of Ashley from William Waller without the Queen's licence. This pardon establishes his rights, he is pardoned and granted the licence on payment of £20 to the Treasury at Westminster and is signed "Gybon" with further endorsements on the reverse and on the reverse flap (in latin). Fine. Photo
The history of the Manor of Ashley indicates that it was conveyed to William Waller in 1571. Apparently it was held by him until his death in 1616 when it passed to his daughter, Charity, wife of Thomas Phelipps.
Ashley is a village located in the southwest of Hampshire, England. It lies on the eastern outskirts of New Milton in the New Forest district, and is two miles inland from the sea. Its history dates back to the Domesday book of 1086, when two estates were recorded. In the 15th century much of Ashley merged with a neighbouring manor, and the estate became known as Ashley Arnewood.
