Cape Cod Railroad Company, set of 7% bonds, 1871, all handsigned by Richard Borden as President, $500, only partly issued and not numbered, $1000, #174 and $5000, #216, all with vignette of Richard Borden in centre, black, green underprint of values, the first with coupons, the 2nd and thrid with adhesive revenue stamps, ink cancelled. Colonel Richard Borden, 1795 - 1874 businessman and civic leader from Fall River, Massachusetts. Co-founded Fall River Iron Works in 1821, built several cotton mills and operated the Fall River Shipping Line and Railroad. His sons continued the business legacy and operated several comoanies in the town. Together with a $1000 bond, 1855, #401; an earlier Cape Cod Branch Railroad Co., bond for $500, 1851, #359, appears to be unlisted in Cox, and a Cape Cod Central Railroad Company, $500, 1865, #81.
