Monte Non Vacabile de Paschi della Città, e Stato di Siena per S.A.S., Loan 40 scudi, Siena [1660], with signature of Pietro Piccolomini, arms of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany at top left, City of Siena at right, black printing, wood engraving printed on vellum. Founded in 1472, the Monte di Pieta was as charitable institution in the 15th century. Funds were obtained from wealthy landowners and merchants and lent to those in need. The Monte del Paschi is the oldest surviving bank in the world and this rare item is one its oldest certificates available to collectors. Top right stain, without wax seal, otherwise VF.
