British North Borneo Company, £1 shares, 19[09], #6767, company's coat of arms at top, black on pink paper. Incorporated by Royal Charter in 1881 to administer the British Colony (now Sabah, Malaysia). It set up Government, recruited Sikh policemen from Northern India to keep law and order and also built a railway. The area was rich in gold mines and tobacco fields were established at Darvel Bay. The company even issued its own paper currency and coins. The company was wound up in 1946, the territory becoming a Crown Colony. Endorsements at top, F-VF and rare.
