Societe des Soufres de Nissyros .... S. Ralli Fils & Cie, £1000 share, Constantinople [1881], #45, signed by Alexandre Ralli and Georges S. Ralli as directors, large format piece, blue and black, embossed seal, with all coupons. Nissyros is a small Greek volcanic island near the Island of Kos. Sulphur was mined on the island by this company controlled by the well know international bankers Ralli Brothers. Still a tourist attraction, the yellow sulphur blow holes can still be seen. The Ralli family came from Chios near the Turkish coast which probably explains the Ottoman company registration, and operated a merchant banking business in Constantinople as well as London, Paris, Persia and India. Thre were only 50 shares of £1000 issued. GVF and very rare.
