Edward VI (1547-53), Shilling 8oz, 1549, 3.74g, Tower II?, m.m. none?, timor domini fons vite mdxlix, bust 1, lozenge stops, rev. edward vi d g agl fra z hib rex, lozenge stops, garnished shield dividing e r (N.1918/1; S.2465; Stewartby p.532; BNJ vol.31, pl.XII/3 this coin), flat in parts, but virtually as struck, good very fine, very rare
The reverse has an unduly large space between the two lozenges which would be expected to accommodate the mintmark and so attribute the mint, though remaining detail is difficult to reconcile. Possibilities are either a filled die or the engraver failed to add a mintmark.
