The first coin is believed to be the earlest issue of Tipu struck at Kalikut, then capital of Malabar district. It has the mint epithet 'bundar' (port). Although undated it is thought to have been struck in AH1198.
In 1788 Tipu moved his seat of government from Kalikut to Feroke, and AM1215 was the last year that coins were struck at this mint.
