Auction: 17006 - Ancient, British and Foreign Coins and Commemorative Medals
Lot: 161

India, Mughal Empire, Shah Jahan (1628-58), gold Mohur, 10.62g, Akbarabad, AH1041, ry.4, Shihab ud-Din Muhammad Shah Jahan badshah ghazi, possibly a medallic issue, with evidence of mounting on rim, about extremely fine, unusual

A similar coin was sold in Todywalla Auctions, 2014, auction 88, lot 221. Here it was suggested that this may have been a special issue to mark an occasion such as the Persian New Year or the Emperor's birthday darbar. Having inspected the rim, the present cataloguer feels it may have been struck as a medallic issue.
